Maegen Online

An MMORPG in alpha. Marble under two moons, a server that decides in whole numbers, and a ledger behind every coin that moves.

In alpha now No patch notes yet — this is what the build actually contains.

  • 01 Characters & zones Characters persist. Each zone answers to exactly one authority, and that authority is the server.
  • 02 Items & upgrading Items exist as records. Upgrading changes the record, and the record is the only thing the server will argue about.
  • 03 The market Stalls and auctions between players, both sides held in escrow by the server.
  • 04 Clans & chat Running today. The social layer is not a roadmap item; it is a thing you can use.
  • 05 The realm fleet Two realms live, on a server written in Rust that steps every fifty milliseconds.
Key art: a rune-shard inside an arch of woven silver branches, above a night valley, with a castle on a crag and two moons behind it.

The world

Elarion is marble and night.

Colonnades, night gardens and a fountain at the centre. Grand gates you walk through rather than load into. A palace built in white marble and lit, after dark, by rune light — never desert, and never sand.

The systems

Four things the server decides.

Not a feature list for later. Each of these is running in the alpha build today. Choose one.

Diagram: eight actors on a ring, every line converging on one central writer.

A character, and a world that keeps running.

Your character persists. So does the world around it. Each zone answers to exactly one authority, and that authority is the server — many clients, one writer.

Shown: zone authority. A diagram, not a screenshot — there is no character art to show yet.

Diagram: the same six-cell record twice, before and after, with one more cell lit on the right.

Every item has a state, and you can change it.

Items exist as records, not as pictures. Upgrading changes the record — and the record is the only thing the server will argue about.

Shown: one item record, before and after an upgrade.

Diagram: two parties, each handing one item into a single held box between them.

A stranger’s promise, held by the server.

Stalls and auctions between players, backed by escrow. The server holds both sides of the trade, so neither of you has to trust the other.

Shown: escrow. Both sides of a trade held in one place.

Diagram: eight nodes linked into one connected graph, one of them lit.

Nobody plays alone.

Clans and chat are running today. The social layer is not a roadmap item; it is a thing you can use.

Shown: the social graph, one node live.

The technology

Fifty milliseconds. Every time.

The server is written in Rust. The client is Unreal Engine 5. The fight is fair because the server is the only thing that decides what happened — and because it decides it the same way twice, in whole numbers.

Status

Alpha. In development.
No date.

Here is what is actually running: characters and zones, items and upgrading, an escrow-backed market with stalls and auctions, clans and chat, across a live realm fleet with two realms. There is no release date because there is not one to give.

The studio behind the project is Azakhan Studios.
